Sketches

  • What about laying foundation through psalms/hymns? Laying foundation through praying/singing/worshipping?
  • Psalms seem to frequently provide mimetic imagery of the tabernacle/temple elements, which themselves are sympathetic mimesis of the cosmos, which themselves are sympathetic mimesis of the “pattern”, image of God.

Examples of Psalms for Foundation | Laying Foundation through Psalms | Laying through Praying (singing)

Psalm 29

Overview: the content of the voice/sound of Yahweh over many waters; the elements  are - the sons of God, ascribing to Yah glory and strength, calling out Glory (likened to the priesthood). They are wearing holy array, likened to the priestly garments. The natural phenomena of storming is recast through the lens of Yahweh exercising might from his throne. What is interesting is the repetition concerning the waters, and Yahweh being OVER them. In the cosmological terms of the Hebrews, to get to Yahweh’s heavenly temple, you have to pass through the cosmic waters (the tehom) that is above the barrier of the heavens (the raqia). This is true of the tabernacle complex: to reach Yah as a priest, you have to first pass through the waters of the laver/wash basin to reach him. Additionally, verse seven, the voice of Yahweh flashing flames of fire seems reminiscent of the altar and fire from heaven devouring sacrifice, which makes the language of cattle/bovine trembling/skipping interesting.

Exodus 30:17–21 (LEB)17 And Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying, 18 “And you will make a basin of bronze and its bronze stand for washing, and you will put it between the tent of assembly and the altar, and you will put water there. 19 And Aaron and his sons will wash their hands and their feet with it. 20 When they come to the tent of assembly, they will wash with water so that they do not die, or when they approach the altar to serve by turning to smoke an offering made by fire to Yahweh. 21 And they will wash their hands and their feet so that they do not die, and it will be a lasting rule for them—to him and to his offspring throughout their generations.
