    1. The only thing that should come out of your mouth is that which is for building up need
      Show Exegesis

The one who steals must steal no longer, but instead must labor, working with his own hands what is good, so that he may have something to share with the one who has need. No rotten word must proceed from your mouth, but only something good for the building up of the need, in order that it may give grace to those who hear, and do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.

      Ephesians 4:28 - 30 (LEB)

      Ephesians 4:28–30 (LGNTI:SBL)

This passages sets rotten words against good words for building up the need. Let’s compare the two:

      1. (all) Rotten words (πᾶς λόγος σαπρὸς) are forbidden from the mouth. The word for “rotten” is used 8 times in 6 verses, and does not occur in the LXX. Every other use of the word other than this passage is by Yeshua. Four of the uses by Yeshua are comparing a good tree/good fruit AND a bad (read rotten) tree/bad (read rotten) fruit in agricultural/consumptive terms. One is comparing good fish and bad fish in consumptive terms.
      2. rather if the good towards building up the need (ἀλλὰ εἴ τις ἀγαθὸς πρὸς οἰκοδομὴν τῆς χρείας). the word for building up (οἰκοδομὴν) is a building/architectural term mostly applied to the Temple in general, and the spiritual temple, the church in the New Testament. The word is upbuilding, building, or edification: it is a construction job currently in progress, with much undone. This picture should inform us about what the word “need” (χρείας) is pointing to. Each person, a spiritual stone being built into a spiritual temple, is BEING BUILT UP; each person is lacking, and requires needed tasks, and necessary work to complete them. The standard of completion is the fullness of the maturity of the son of God. The means to reach completion is LOVE alone. (see exegesis here)

    1. Love is synonymous with the activity of building up the brotherhood and spiritual temple of God
      Show Exegesis

12 for the equipping of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for building up the body of Christ, 13 until we all reach the unity of the faith and the knowledge of the Son of God, to a mature man, to a measure of the maturity of the fullness of Christ, 14 so that we may no longer be infants, tossed about by waves and carried about by every wind of teaching, by the trickery of people, by craftiness with reference to the scheming of deceit. 15 But speaking the truth in love, we are to grow into him with reference to all things, who is the head, Christ, 16 from whom the whole body, joined together and held together by every supporting ligament, according to the working by measure of each single part, the growth of the body makes for the building up of itself in love.

    Questions about 1 Timothy 2:1-8
    1. What is the significance of the phrase, "good and acceptable before God"?
      Show Question Details

Like, how did we get from  living in all godliness and dignity to "good and acceptable"? Is it a priestly reference? Like, aren't sacrifices called "good and acceptable"? What's the connection between sacrifices and prayer?

    2. Are the lives/fates of the church intertwined with the lives/fates of all people?
      Show Question Details

Like are our outcomes shared here on earth?

    3. Is there a causal relationship between all people being saved (God's will) and the church offering up prayers on behalf of all people, IN ORDER THAT THE CHURCH MAY LIVE A QUIET AND TRANQUIL LIFE IN ALL GODLINESS AND DIGNITY?
      Show Question Details

Like, does our prayer have something to do with all people being saved? Is this actually two steps?

Is it first we pray, then our lives display, then (more/all) people get saved?

    4. What is the connection between prayers on behalf of people and God wanting all people to be saved?
      Show Question Details

Like, are the two being correlated? If so, what's the correlation?

    5. Why is God wanting all people to be saved being connected to the church being able to "live a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity"?
      Show Question Details

Like what is the correlation between the two?

    6. Why is our ability to live a quiet and tranquil life predicated on petitions, prayers, and requests being made on behalf of all people?
      Show Question Details

Like why all people? What if we only pray for the church? What if we only pray for the lost? Does this mean if the precondition (prayer for all people) is not met, that we cannot live a quiet and tranquil life?
