Messiah : Notes and Sketch

How does Paul present Messiah?
Romans 15
  • vs 3: “For even Messiah did not please himself…”
    • Messiah is our praxis exemplar (prototype to imitate)
      • Why is Messiah spoken of as an exception/exclusion “for even Messiah…”?
      • Why does Paul refer to him in this way?
  • “For whatever was written beforehand was written for our instruction…”

    • In it’s clearest context Paul is using the phrase to justify the practice of reading what was written beforehand ABOUT MESSIAH and that we are to emulate it, follow it, reproduce it (the life of the Messiah)
  • just as Christ also has accepted you(Ro 15:7).

    • Messiah is the accepter of all disciples. he accepts us. he has received us, taken us in just as we are, as sinners in fact. we also ought to do the same to other believers.
  • just as Christ also has accepted you, to the glory of God. (Ro 15:7).

    • Messiah accepted/received us to the glory of God

      • Why does Paul use the phrase “to the glory of God” here?

      • How does Messiah receive me to the God’s glorification/adding of his glory? how does Messiah’s taking me in add to the glory of God?
