    1. Wisdom's aim is increase of wealth
      Show Exegesis

Proverbs 3:13–18 (LEB) 13 Happy is ⌊the one⌋ who finds wisdom, and one who obtains understanding. 14 For her income is better than the income of silver, and her revenue than that of gold. 15 She is more precious than rubies, and all your desires shall not compare with her. 16 Length of days is in her right hand; in her left hand are riches and honor. 17 Her ways are ways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace. 18 She is a tree of life for those who seize her; those who take hold of her are considered happy.

The reason you prize wisdom over wealth, is because wealth itself does not lead to increase of itself :) Wisdom is better than wealth, because it brings MORE WEALTH, i.e. increase. Wisdom seeks increase of honor, wealth, pleasantness, and peace, life, and happiness.

    1. Wisdom seeks to avoid injury and injurious costs
      Show Exegesis

The appeal wisdom makes is on the basis of seeking superlative happiness and avoiding the unhappiness of not “keeping/guarding wisdom’s ways,” “keeping watch”, not “guarding” the way of wisdom. The result of missing/rejecting wisdom is self-injury; this is in sharp contradistinction to the picture of the happiness one brings themselves through the activities of self-monitoring/guarding/watching/keeping.

    1. Wisdom's Primary Activity is Judgment from the most elevated stature attainable
      Show Exegesis

Proverbs 8:14–16 (LEB) 14 ⌊Advice and sound judgment⌋ are mine; I am understanding, ⌊strength is mine⌋. 15 By me kings reign, and rulers decree righteousness. 16 By me rulers rule, and nobles—all judges of righteousness.

Let’s consider “sound judgment”; the word here in hebrew is תוּשִׁיָּ֑ה (too-she-YAH). It can also be translated “success”. What wisdom judges for is a successful route towards the most elevated state of self-preservation possible. Elevation is a key term. Consider the hierarchical nouns  and the associated verbs here:

      • kings –> reign (do their kingdoming)
      • rulers (dignitaries) –> decree righteousness (declare maxims to be followed by others and to be acted out repetitively in dictated circumstances)
      • rulers (princes) –> rule as princes (do their princing)
      • nobles (nobleman) –> (seems attached to previous  activity of princing)
      • judges –> ( a kind of synopsis title for ALL the prior nouns and a summarization of ALL these various activities)

Wisdom is about rendering judgment from the most elevated stature possible. The activity cannot be considered with attainment of stature. Elevation/stature is to be seen as the most enduring means of creating an environment or maintaining one’s own context that can be enjoyed by oneself.

    1. The entry point and initialization for wisdom is fear for self-preservation's sake
      Show Exegesis

Proverbs 9:10–12 (LEB) Foolishness’ Banquet 10 The start of wisdom is fear of Yahweh, and knowledge of the Holy One, insight. 11 For by me your days shall increase, and years of life shall multiply for you. 12 If you are wise, you are wise for yourself, and if you scoff, alone you shall bear it.

Verse 10 is clear the fear of Yahweh is the initialization/starting point of wisdom, however, it’s context is enlightening. Why fear Yahweh?

In a parallelism, the second clause of verse 10 calls Yahweh קְדֹשִׁ֣ים(ke-DOH-sheem), the Holy/Clean One. Why is fear being connected to holiness/cleanness? Because holiness/cleanness is being connected to what is driving Yahweh’s agenda for creation. Yahweh’s agenda and modus operandum is being presented here as integrally bound up with BEING HOLY/CLEAN. Specifically Yahweh’s active maintenance of creation and the actions and reactions he ordains within creation will be geared towards achieving/maintaining cleanness. Fear comes in because humans are agents that can oppose this ultimate agenda, and suffer harm.

But the fear spoken of here is not a vague fear of the person of Yahweh. But rather an acquainted knowledge that his agenda of holiness can lead to harm of self if you oppose it or find yourself on the wrong side of it. Wisdom actually begins specifically with a fear of Yahweh acting in accord with holiness and oneself being harmed. Self-preservation in the face of Yahweh’s holiness is genesis of this fear. The desire to preserve oneself precedes the fear spoken of here.

Yahweh’s/Wisdom’s role of being the ultimate shot-caller is what is used to explain the fear in verses 11-12:

Because I’m the determiner of the length of your days, and your outcomes and what you’ll have to bear, AND BECAUSE YOU ARE CONCERNED WITH SELF-PRESERVATION IN LIGHT OF THIS, be wise.

Wisdom is NOT about being concerned with the outcome of others. It is solely concerned with the outcome of self, and is self-oriented by definition. (as a quick aside: self-preservation in this moral schema/paradigm/landscape IS NOT SINFUL, but right and just and fair).

    2. Wisdom is about taking ownership of one's own actions
      Show Exegesis

Proverbs 9:12 (LEB) 12 If you are wise, you are wise for yourself, and if you scoff, alone you shall bear it

You alone shall bear the results, because you are alone are responsible for the actions you have taken as “yourself”.

Wisdom is about self-policing. We self-police because we have already taken ownership of our actions and believe in “responsibility”. This responsibility comes from the duty/obligation imposed on us as imagers of Yahweh. Imagers are truly moral beings, and will be judged (on a related note, animals will not give an “accounting” in “The Judgment” to come). Justice will prevail, and this assurance/certainty of judgment is the rationale for exercising wisdom.

This can be found in the following doctrine (Galatians 6:1-5), and exegetical point.

    3. Wisdom is self-oriented and definitionally restricted to self-maintenance and self-motivation

To be deemed as acting “wise”, is to be deemed as acting for results restricted to self-interest. Even when the interests of others are included, the aim of wisdom is founded solely on self-interest: wisdom is unparalleled in achieving mutually beneficial outcomes, but does not produce outcomes un-beneficial to itself

Like, isn't the point of edification/build-up be that which builds up others (circa tongues in contradistinction to prophecy)?

    1. Wisdom is fundamentally driven by avoiding
      Show Exegesis

Proverbs 9:7–9 (LEB) 7 He who corrects a scoffer gains abuse for himself, and he who rebukes the wicked ⌊gets hurt⌋. 8 Do not rebuke a scoffer, lest he hate you; rebuke the wise and he will love you. 9 Give to a wise one and he will become more wise; ⌊teach⌋ a righteous one and he will increase learning.

      Here wisdom avoids:

      • abuse - קָל֑וֹן (kah-LON) / shame, ignomy,contempt
      • hurt -מוּמֽוֹ(moom-OH) / HIS spot, blemish, INJURY (problem located on self)
      • hate (specifically being hated by others) - יִשְׂנָאֶ֑ךָּ(yee-suh-nah-eh-KHAH) / hatred of you

    1. Wisdom is about looking out for yourself in light of moral obligation/duty to answer for your actions
      Show Exegesis

looking out for yourself, lest you also be tempted …But let each one examine his own work, and then he will have a reason for boasting in himself alone, and not in someone else. 5 For each one will carry his own burden.

Looking out for yourself” correlates with “each one carry[ing] his own load”. This could be worded as a question, “Whose job is it to look out for you? Someone else?”.

This question leads to the issue of judgment and reward: accolades/boasting result from “examining one’s own work”.
